You hear the drone of an engine and look skyward. You watch as a plane cuts a path across

the sky and think, “How cool is that!” You’ve often dreamed of what it would be like to take to

the sky, leaving all the traffic and congestion behind.

There are many people just like you learning to fly. Some will fly for business reasons, some will embark on an aviation career, but most will fly for the sheer enjoyment of flying. Whatever your interest in aviation, learning to fly is easier than you think. It’s time to do something for you. . .

It’s Time To Live Your Dream!

Luv2Fly Texas, centrally located at Grand Prairie Municipal
Airport, just
north of I-20 between Fort Worth and Dallas, offers quality, affordable flight training, with flexible hours tailored to your specific needs. Training centers around one-on-one instruction. Our goal is to make you a safe and competent pilot, not just someone who holds a pilot license.

We specialize in teaching the private pilot and instrument ratings.  Flight and ground instruction incorporates video presentations, official FAA material, and visits to aviation related service providers to ensure maximum learning.

How Do I Start?

A good way to determine if flying is right for you is to schedule a Discovery Flight. A Discovery Flight is an introduction to flying. You and an instructor will spend an initial half hour in the classroom going over procedures for handling the airplane both on the ground and in flight. Then it is out to the airplane to fly! You will be given an opportunity to take the controls—right from the start—and discover the thrill of flying!

What Then?

If you decide to continue, that first Discovery Flight is your first lesson—and goes in your official flight log!  Flight training then usually proceeds toward the Private Pilot Certificate. General Eligibility Requirements state you must be at least 17 years of age; be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language; and hold an FAA Medical Certificate*.

Minimum flight time required in your training is 40 hours of flight that includes at least 20 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor and 10 hours of solo flight training. You must pass a written knowledge test and a practical test often referred to as a flight test or “check ride.”

Although the FAA only requires 40 total hours of flight time before you can take your check ride, the average time required is approximately 60 to 70 hours. The number of hours needed to gain the necessary skills to be a competent pilot will vary from person to person.

*Flight training can begin earlier than 17 years of age but you must be at least 16 years of age to obtain a student pilot license and must be 17 years of age to take your flight test.  An FAA medical is not necessary to begin flight training but it is required before you can solo the airplane. We recommend that you obtain your FAA medical early in your training.

What About An Instrument Rating?

An instrument rating will allow a private pilot to fly through clouds and other weather without visual reference to the ground. Even if you don’t plan on flying in clouds often, obtaining an instrument rating will not only make you a better, safer, VFR pilot, but give you more options when flying cross country—no more getting caught by low clouds or rain showers and having to “wait it out.”

Minimum training and flight requirements include your having at least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as Pilot in Command (PIC), 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, 15 hours of instrument flight training from an authorized instructor, passing
a written knowledge test, and passing a practical test (flight test
or “check ride”).
